Open XIV Launcher and use the steam integration in there instead of opening it as a non-steam game. XIVLauncher.Core for some reason doesn't like it when you do that and causes the infamous stuttering after elongated periods of time. This doesn't happen on deck in handheld as far as i can tell, but happens on desktop.Apparently the official FFXIV launcher works on Steam Deck again fwiw. To answer your question though, install the official FFXIV game on Steam, add FFXIVLauncher as a Steam game and then you open that when you want to play FFXIV. Oh dang, yeah it seems that way.
