Jan 24, 2008 · I hate a Marlin model 336 with a gold trigger and a serial number stamper "71 135158". There is a space between the 71 and the rest of the serial numbers. What year and does the remaining numbers mean anything? I am assuming the 71 is 1971 but I thought the 135158 might also indicate a production year of 1987... Thanks for any help you can provide.

Feb 25, 2009 · It is nearly the same thing as the model 336 Marlin. Marlin produced the Glenfield 30A with a birch stock instead of the higher grade walnut stock that they used on the 336. The Glenfields were sold through department stores at a cheaper price. As far as the serial number, Marlin serialized all their guns with the same designation for the years. Starting in 1968 Marlin used the first two digits of the serial number to indicate the year the gun was made. So a gun with serial number 703778 was made in 1970. Then in 1973 they changed the first two digits to be subtracted from 100 indicated the year of manufacture. Why does my 336 serial number start with 68 951XX. Also I cannot find in the book where they refer to a Model 336RC. On page 250 it indicates that from 1948 - 1983 the carbine was designated 336C.
